Meetings are held the second Wednesday of each month at 1:30 P.M. at a member’s home or the Senior Citizens Center. The hostess for the month presents the program.
Community service projects performed by garden club members:
- We are undertaking a large, historic garden renovation project. The Saco Garden Club received a $1,900 grant for beautification of property the club owns on Highway 2 in Saco. An historic church is being moved from Sleeping Buffalo Resort to this property and the new area will be known as Pioneer Gardens. The location is next to the Saco jail and Huntley School.
- Plant flower planters on Main Street and at the post office in Saco.
- Decorate tables at the Senior Citizen Center with holiday-theme and fresh flowers in season.
- Plant rose bushes at a local park and at the Huntley School.
- Give a $100 scholarship to a Saco student who has completed one year studying agriculture/horticulture.
- Support and work with a junior garden club and local 4-H students at Saco School. We teach respect for our ecosystem. The goal is to educate students about vegetable and flower gardening, trees, butterfly and bird habitats, water conservation, and to promote civic responsibility by keeping the town looking nice and to explore career choices in horticulture-related fields.
Promote gardening by writing thank-you notes to home owners with attractive yards and gardens. - Educate the public about gardening and our club projects with a garden booth display at the Phillips County Fair in Dodson.
